Wave-particle duality (i.e. deBroglie's pilot wave) is not an absolutely necessary part of the explanation in light of MWI. For example, Deutsch argues that MWI is the more parsimonious explanation of the double-slit experiment: particles in other universes collide with the observable particles in ours resulting in the interference pattern.
